I think I need a head cleaner for my built-in vcr. The sound quality is poor, even on my brand new videos, and it ejected one while it was playing, thankfully undamaged. I know that the cleaners for audiocassettes come in two varieties, the ones where you just stick the tape in and hit play or fastforward and the ones where you have to put fluid in the cartridge before putting it into the machine. Does it work the same with the vcr cleaners or is there only one kind? If not, which does a better job.
There's only one kind for a vcr. It'sone of those ribbon ones with no fluid. You will need sighted help though, as there are text captions that tell you what to do next. For instance, when you press play, it rolls for a few seconds, then tells you to press fastforward, then it tells you to go in record mode...such things as that.
I remember my family using one that talked, but I don't recall if it gave instructions or just told you when it was starting and stopping. Am I crazy or has anyone used the one I mean? In any case, I really need to do this.
I asked Mom today and she said that we have one that uses fluid. She doesn't remember if it talks but I know now that there are two kinds.
As an update, we cleaned the heads with a cotton swab and a tiny bit of rubbing alcohol and now, it works beautifully. Quick, easy and economical sollution. I love those.
